Alien Nation (Poem)

Our bigotry is revealed in its blindness to the suffering of the other. -- Mark Bloom
Alien Nation
Few are the people, at most,
Say to people that you're sad,
And they'll either inquire more or give you a day off.
Say to them that you're deeply struggling,
And they will give up on responsibility.
Disassociate,
So their name won't be stained;
Your life is less important,
Should someone greatly suffer alone in the city,
Most chances even their closest neighbors will not care.
Do you know how many people go a realm far beyond here?
Without the media reporting them clear?
I don't know, either,
Their writer's voice only they hear.
I refuse to live in such a world,
And does not care if you'll die,
Beyond them feeling a bit sad, and then bye.
The personal aspect of the self,
Should be welcomed with opened arms,
So you will know
People should feel comfortable,
Should they wish to do so,
To anyone they wish, heartfully.
It is the key,
To combat alienation,
By convincing others,
That there is no fault,
In genuine care.
They should not mask their moan.
If an illness bothers them at work,
Yes, even a mental one,
In this hypocritical
We should not pretend,
For pretense not only offs empathy,
But also, one's desire,
Beyond making a living for one.
A sense of community,
Should be attained,
Or else,
People will succumb to dark-full-ness,
Not necessarily out of loneliness,
But out of the feeling of
General insignificance.
